Carlton Livingston - 100 Weight of Collie Weed

One for all the smokers out there. Classic 1983 chuuune via Carlton Livingston…talkin’ bout moving big weight. Carlton delivers it hard riding over the Hot Milk riddim. I heard this song once a couple years ago and have had it in and out of my head since then. The vocals are infectious….Carlton reminds me a bit of classic sweet-soul singers like Gregory Isaacs et al….cept with more rugged lyrics. I’ve been trying to track this down on 45 for a while and finally found a reissue version that is slightly different….it’s like a New York re-edit….”100lbs of Collie Weed coming through New York….New York” Anyone know anything about this version? I’ve been having a hard time finding any info about it. Anyway….twist one up and enjoy.

Freddie McGregor - Bredda Labba Labba

Freddie McGregor - I Am Ready

Let’s keep this irie train a rollin’. Freddie McGregor (innit a drag when they get yr name wrong on yr album cover?) dropped this back in crispy ol’ 1982. IT STILL RUNS!

Freddie is pretty well known amongst fans of Jamaican music having gotten his start singing in the The Clarendonians and working with the legendary Niney The Observer. This release seems to be overshadowed by his Bobby Bobylon & Big Ship albums but it’s worth checking out nonetheless.

You listen!

spring is in the smokey air….Althea and Donna live at the ‘78 reggae sunsplash.

I want nothing more than to be riding around on a 70’s 350cc Honda, high as a Georgia pine, listening to this track. THIS is why the good lord invented Sensi, music and motor oil.

roll it up and ride kiddees.

Taggy Matcher - Shimmy Shimmy Ya

Taggy Matcher - Shimmy Shimmy Ya

Here’s the newest offering in the ongoing effort to force spring through music. Couldn’t decide if Reggae or Hip Hop would be more effective, so I went with both. This is one 45 in a series put out by Taggy Matcher, each one a dancefloor grenade. For how much these two genres have in common, it’s surprising how few times they’ve been successfully combined.  Collect the 45’s or grab Taggy’s new album that compiles them all in one place - Reggae Hip Hop Series Volume 1 - and hop in your whip, pop it in your deck, snap your neck, and witness the fitness!

The Paragons - "Happy Go Lucky Girl"

Welcome to full on summer!  These guys (The Paragons) were best known for the song “The Tide Is High” later covered by Blondie.  There is nothing I’d rather listen to as I reclaim my neglected back yard.  You’re wwwelcome!
