Blog of Note: Center Of Attention

Punch!

‘Sup bromies?

Here’s a quickie while we cook up our next post: Center Of Attention

C-of-A is a blog of sorts devoted to the oft-overlooked “artwork, graphics and logos of record center labels.” It’s lovingly curated by one Simon Foster.

Check it out and be sure not to miss its companion Cover Me

Hope ya dig!

Swamp Dogg - "Do You Believe?"

…Like there’s anything I can add to this?

Mr. Dogg (AKA Jerry Williams Jr.) has been making music now for some 55 +/- years. He got his start making 78s and went on to be a fairly prolific (if not well-known) producer / songwriter churning out almost-hits for Doris Duke, Gene Pitney, Irma ThomasInez & Charlie Foxx, Dee Dee Warwick, Arthur Conley and many others…

NPR has a great round-up / history.

Some damn fool once dared proclaim this as the worst album cover ever made. I say it’s the greatest.

NOW TAKE ME HOME WITH THE DING-DANGs!

Deets:

Artist: Swamp Dogg
Album: Rat On!
Year: 1971
Label: Elektra

Looks like they reissued this one along with “Total Destruction to Your Mind” (which we’ll be talking about soon enough). Amazon has the CD & MP3s

Paul Kelly - "Take It Away From Him (put it on me)"

Every now and again you come across album art that *completely* blows yr mind and you just know the music inside is sure to please. Case in point: Paul Kelly’s “Hooked, Hogtied, & Collared.” Study that art for a moment and be amazed. Yes friend, this is S&M soul. Dude is a superfreak!

If the man don’t want all the love you’re givin’ Try me! I’m willing!

Damn. No shit. Well, fuckit. This cut is nice anyway Mr. TMI creepy guy. Deets:

ARTIST: Paul Kelly
ALBUM: Hooked, Hogtied, & Collared
YEAR: 1974
LABEL: Warner Bros.

I guess it’s not shocking dude kinda got his start playing with old man Blowfly. You can’t listen to these cuts without imagining every line as some freaky doublespeak for: “Hey, why don’t you throw a saddle on me and ruff-ride me around town?” But what can I say, he makes it work. Freak on!
