Kimberley Briggs - "The Letter"

EPIC! TUESDAYS!

That’s right - It’s that time again friends! This week’s installment is a real doozy. Kimberley Briggs’ take on the legendary cut “The Letter” [+] from The Boxtops [+].

Singer Kimberley Briggs (also known as Kim Tolliver) had a fairly star-crossed musical career releasing a handful of thoroughly ignored singles & albums until throwing in the towel and going into real estate. She passed in 2007 but her legend lives on amongst us record nerds (and those we indoctrinate).

Many have taken their swing at this cut but none have managed to squeeze so much from its pulpy innards. Sit back, maybe grab a li’l snack and some tissues (things are gonna git emotional), and ENJOY THE RIDE!

Deets:

Artist: Kimberley Briggs
Album: Passing Clouds
Label: Fantasy
Year: 1972

This has never been reissued on CD so yr gonna have to dig. GEMM has one and you might be able to find it via eBay and the other usuals… might get a bit spendy though!

Little Richard - "California (I'm Comin')"

This one has been LODGED in my brain all day so I figured I might as well throw it up on the ol’ Broblog. The track comes from the “Southern Child” album Richards recorded for Reprise back in 1972. As you probably could have guessed, Reprise chose to shelve the record.

Sure… *chomps cigar*… he helped invent this entire business but what has he done for me LATELY?

It remained unreleased until Rhino Handmade compiled all the Reprise recordings and put out a limited edition of 2500 in 2005 (2500 in 2005, got that?).

Anyway, blah blah blah blah…! It’s been a long day and I got nothin’.

YOU LISTEN NOW.

Looks like the CD is out of print but Amazon has the MP3s.
